Michigan State University will use a $3 million grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to launch the Food Processing and Innovation Center.
The center will be located in an MSU-owned building on Hulett Road in Okemos. The renovation will begin in April 2015, and the center will be open for business in early 2016.
Wow, Hulett Road is really far from central campus. It seems like this center will not have a commercial side, but it still would have been nice for MSU to put these jobs closer to the central campus or downtown East Lansing (since it sounds like the food version of East Lansing's TIC).
Construction will start in the spring. There was a previous application for a much denser and larger project but it was denied because it didn't fit the character of the neighborhood and was too large for the current zoning.
With all the developments in and around East Lansing I think the next step is for the city to have a nice architecturally-oriented development. Maybe not so big or practical, but something different that can add diversity to downtown.
That link says 2013 to 2014 in the body of text and 2014 to 2015 in the header, do you know if this is something that has already happened or is it ongoing?
I think that whole text describes the project in general: inviting designs from architects, their presentations and eventually exhibiting those designs. Last year they had national architects every month presenting their designs and ideas of what they envisioned for East Lansing. This year the Broad will exhibit those designs.

It's great to see them doing well, but it makes all the more disappointing they didn't build this 300,000+ sq ft of office space in downtown East Lansing or Lansing.
