People have mentioned them to me as if I'm supposed to know them. I search them and find of tons of local news stories talking about them visiting places. I somewhat doubt that their fame is organically grown given the amount of traditional media exposure.
That being said I'm happy to see our area get some exposure and I'll probably try to find out where they're posting their Lansing content.
Just playing around this evening, decided to ask four different LLMs to rank the churches in East Lansing by size of congregation. I then discovered (because I know some of these churches) that the numbers Grok and ChatGPT were giving me were waaaaaaay more accurate than the numbers Gemini and Claude were giving me for some of these churches, don't ask me why.
Ergo, sort of combining what Grok and ChatGPT told me, if you're interested.
1. St Thomas Aquinas / St Johns Student Center: 3400 registered families. 1600 people attend each Sunday.
2. Peoples Church of East Lansing: 750 members, 300 attend each Sunday.
3. University United Methodist Church: 480 members, 350 attend each Sunday
4. University Reformed Church: 420 members, 650 attend each Sunday
5. Edgewood United Church of Christ: 400 members, 130 attend each Sunday
The attendance numbers are fairly interesting. I've always wanted to go into St Thomas Aquinas just to see that stained glass from the inside.
I almost exclusively use ChatGPT, I've been paying the $20/month for a long time and am used to its perks now so it's hard to go back to anything free. Whenever I've used a free version of an LLM, or even ChapGPT's live voice, it feels like a massive step backwards. Let alone the sad joke that is the AI summary in Google searches.
