  • Wow thanks for the detailed research! I hadn't seen the Urban Design Guidelines before. Is there an "existing blockface" for a development like Park District where it encompasses the entire block?
  • Yeah growing up in East Lansing I just assumed all cities were like that but over time I've found out the hard way (through blank stares mainly) that other cities will approve most projects administratively.
  • Yeah that's looking north west along Evergreen. The sky bridge would connect to Park Place I. The old post office building which is now Dublin Square is pretty nice. It might not be realistic but it would be great to move it across the street a…
  • He's calling his development Park Place. Close enough to be confusing I agree. I think the idea is that this part of downtown would be called the Park District though.
  • Also, if they really want to break ground by March 2019, then I can't imagine them asking for any public money. The hold up might be the city wanting more money for the Evergreen properties than Vlahakis is willing to pay.
  • This is major news. The city desperately needs a movie theater and more "anchor" tenants downtown that will attract people. This also adds some much needed new office space to the downtown as well as more residential. I think this will hit a coup…
  • This is awesome and will make it very easy for office workers to also run errands during their lunch break. I know the fares are already pretty reasonable, but removing them really will make hopping on and off seamless, especially if people have mul…
  • Any idea when construction can start? Is there anything else that needs to be done first?
  • It's possible city staff want the frontage to be more uniform. But I bet the developers of Center City would have liked a couple more feet themselves.
  • Do they really need to make an amendment to the zoning rules? I would rather them propose a variance for them instead.
  • Yeah, we could at least save the facade, or make this the "top" of a new building.
  • @ratchetwrench, as I understand it, the STEM building is actually part of the College of Education so it's not that far from their main buliding (at the corner of Shaw and Farm Lane, opposite side of the International Center).
  • Yes, these are great ideas! Thanks for sharing them
  • The parkland proposals seem directly related to the sale of the Farmer's Market. Isn't that on parkland? I think this is a defensive maneuver after the mayor said that he wanted to sell it.
  • Wow that is awesome to hear! Great way to increase usage of the buses and get people to leave their cars at home.
  • I'd prefer that this be the last one story building on Grand River to go. There are plenty of other places that are prime for development and not architecturally or historically significant.
  • The Biggby building isn't that notable. It's an old Arby's franchise if I remember right. But it is Biggby's first location, and having grown to the size that they are now I think the building should be landmarked. If Biggby continues to grow, peopl…
  • Yeah it's odd. It feels secretive and rushed. I wonder if the restaurant there is willing to buy the building?
  • I'm planning on updating the forum software tonight. Please let me know if you have any issues. I'll post here when it's complete. Thanks, Jared weinjared - at - gmail
  • From my memory the Music Building already looks like the illustration. Where are the 37,000 square feet being added?
