  • Yeah the most recent vote acts as a recommendation for/against but the city council has ignored the planning commission before.
  • Having Target onboard makes the project seem much more realistic, and it gives people something tangential to hold on to. Without the project, I don't see Target adding another location in the area.
  • The proposal failed to pass in front of the planning commission last night, on a 4-4 split vote. The planning commission's vote is a recommendation to council, not literally blocking the project. The project will have a public hearing in front of th…
  • Well, I imagine much of the coordination and project management couldn't start until the City Council was on board with it. However the lack of tenants should allow this project to start sooner than most.
  • The City Council approved the proposal from Convexity, along with a $19.6 million brownfield plan. The city has yet to agree on a development agreement. Convexity hopes to start construction by May 2018. http://www.lansingstatejournal.com/story/n…
  • Construction has started on the solar panels in the Commuter Lot. These solar panels will double as carports, so it's a great use to increase the value of the parking lot as well as make it more sustainable. The construction is scheduled to be compl…
  • The College of Business expansion looks great. I'm just so disappointed to see MSU continue to expand on the southside of the campus, but at this point at least they are concentrating them together.
  • The Grid, new arcade-bar in Old Town, is opening this Tuesday at 4pm. This will be a destination bar for many people, and will help to continue the growth of Old Town. http://thegridoldtown.com/
  • The Sorority House development would be for Sigma Delta Tau, which currently is renting four separate homes on MAC. This would clear up a lot of room on MAC for a new building to be built there. http://eastlansinginfo.org/content/sorority-house-p…
  • Yes you are right... puzzling. I like both of them, so it is promising, but it seems that much can change between now and when/if they get shovels in the ground.
  • Yeah I was wondering the same too. Looking at the rendering from March 21st, it's possible that is the view from Abbot and this new rendering is the view from Grand River, or vice versa.
  • Yeah this is major news. Not good news for CVS around the corner but I think this will really help downtown East Lansing and the other Meijers and Krogers should be able to continue without losing too much business.
  • Well, just like anything in a capitalistic society, "Greek life" is pretty much a business. Most people that join this sorority are signing up for a 3-year apartment lease. Businesses own franchises for the sororities/fraternities and these are basi…
  • EastLansingInfo has a rendering of the new sorority house. I like the all-brick, it looks nice and increases the density of the area. More info at: http://eastlansinginfo.org/content/public-hearing-coming-sorority-house-proposed-replace-histo…
  • Great pictures, thanks for sharing! I don't remember seeing these buildings in person before. I guess I just don't travel down Ionia much.
  • MSU has posted an update on their Construction Junction site. Here's a link to their YouTube video: Also, links to the construction web-cams: http://ipf.msu.edu/construction/construction-web-cam.html
  • From the LSJ: Blighted buildings near Capitol could get new life The buildings at 513 W Ionia St and 519 W Ionia St total 9,132 square feet. Schmidt's project would call for 4,500 square feet of office/retail space and six residential units on…
  • The LSJ posted an article about Cooley Law School's decline and its effect on downtown Lansing. Cooley has dropped to about 1/3 of its enrollment peak in 2011. Many of the bars that closed downtown attribute a large chunk of business loss due to the…
  • This is illegal (from the article above), So Lansing companies are trying to find better ways to compete. To start with, Taiym and other CIOs in the region have agreed to stop luring talented employees from one another. Apple and Googl…
  • Wow, I hadn't seen the new MSU Summer Circle Theater Stage until now. I didn't know that this got built between the Auditorium and Kresge. East Lansing has something similar, though a bit smaller at the corner of MAC and Albert.
