Which is part of the point. Either way if we want better roads we're going to have to pay for it. Why do you or I care what people in the U.P. or Grand Rapids or Detroit or rural counties want to do with their roads? We have the ability to pass our …

I'm beginning to think it might be best for localities to fund their own roads, why send the the money to state just for them to take a piece for administrative costs and hand the remainder back? The same goes for the Feds on a number of issues. Bes…

@gbinlansing There was an elevator in that building, it was "out of order" for at least a few years, then several years ago they removed the old shaft. I think a new elevator shaft has been sort of in progress since then. I can only assume that buil…

Possibly for an elevator. Last I knew they had no passenger elevator in that building, just a freight elevator that's only unlocked certain hours. Kind of ridiculous for the people who live on the upper floors.

I'm not surprised by a parking structure on that lot and if it's designed well and has ground floor retail I wouldn't even be horribly disappointed. I had forgot that the deal for LCC to buy the N Capitol ramp had fallen through, I'd imagine the lif…

@MichMatters Yeah, that Peckam expansion is a few years old, I was somewhat impressed when I first saw it. I believe the completed new building you're talking about is for the State (LARA I think), I didn't know they were building a second one. A…

I wonder how long the QD site in REO Town has been shut down? It's looked really dead around there for awhile, I was wondering what was going on. It would be good to hear QD get back into locally bottling their own milk but I'm not sad to see them s…

@MichMatters I can't imagine they'd be dumb enough to try to tear down the buildings at Capital & St Joe, those buildings are unique in this area. If they do propose to tear them down I'll be dragging myself to council to speak against anything …

@gbinlansing I'm just a little worried that Lake Trust is going to plop their standard suburban building design and site layout down on that corner. At 3,600 sq ft I'm betting it will only be one floor and would be about the size of a typical suburb…

Regarding the development at Pleasant Grove and Holmes, I agree that it is really disappointing to see that the school will be tore down. It has a small footprint and doesn't seem in terrible shape, I don't know why they don't save it. I'm not sure …

A downturn is inevitable regardless. The economy ebbs and flows and we're already in a longer than typical expansion, I guess that's somewhat expected since we were coming off such a low. There's no telling how long this will last but everything I'v…

I don't have pictures but as of yesterday the Abbot was up to 9 floors, 4 more to go, the elevator towers are close to topped out. Work seems to have slowed or stalled on the Graduate, the elevator cores haven't risen in weeks and the forms were rem…

What constitutes conservatives amongst the council? I'm extremely pro-development but I'd sorta like to be more selective with tax incentives, that's my most important city government issue. I'm also pro marijuana industry for whatever that's worth.

I missed that there was an election. Who's up this time? Do you have any opinions on the candidates?

I would agree that a Grand Ave site, and the old Michigan Theater in particular, would be just about as good as the Lake Trust site. I vaguely remember in a previous article about the PAC them mentioning that several developers were interested in a …

As far as I knew the Wendy's was bought out by the people who built the new apartment building there. I think they were going to tear it down when they were planning a larger second building at the West end of the site.

City Pulse has an article on the early results of the performing arts center feasibility study. The consultant they spoke to suggested a main hall capacity of 1,400 and a smaller venue holding around 200 people, he says these are conservative number…

This definitely isn't a great looking building but I just keep reminding myself of how many market rate units are being added to the neighborhood. It looks like the building proposed for the Lake Trust site a couple blocks away will be at least a sm…

According to the cpix listing the Prudden Tech Center is 133k sq ft total and there's currently 115k sq ft for lease. It looks like they are/were planning solar car ports over the 630 spaces in that lot.

@gbinlansing I'm all around that neighborhood pretty frequently, up and down the streets including the dead ends and I have to disagree. This neighborhood is too isolated from main thoroughfares and commercial districts, too many of the houses are s…
