I noticed the War Memorial in front of the Dept. of Justice buliding at MLK and Allegan is covered by a wood and plastic set-up...is there something going on with this?

Welcome Q! I can understand any of the projects beyond MarketPlace getting put on hold...I just hope that ones like the Gateway are just on HOLD and not cancelled permanently.
-
FYI: There's a meeting today for viewing the City Market plans. It's at 6pm today (Thurs.) at the Lansing Center.

I thought the airport thread was the best for this. The new Peckham building on N. Grand River Ave. and the airport entrance is pretty far along and looking good. It has nothing to do with the airport, but I just thought it would be nice to see this…

This is absolutely phenomenal! It's a huge feather in Lansing's hat and for MSU. News like this would be exciting at any point, but with the current economic climate nation wide this is a really great piece of news to get. I also didn't expect the d…

Rent-to-own is a completely different story than just renting. And as much as I might not like renting outright if I were an owner, it's still better to know that the developer isn't losing money and could cause major problems with the development. …

The plywood on the windows of the 1st floor of 1 Michigan Ave. has been replaced by grey colored material that matches the building keeping it from looking run down. Also, the awning on the south side of the buliding for National City Bank has alrea…

Actually, if I remember correctly, the boards were up last week.
-
Yeah, there are boards on all the windows facing south on the 1st floor (I can't remeber if any higher floors have boards but I don't think they do).

AF breaking ground hopefully will push things along faster for Capitol Club than if it had stalled. That coupled with MarketPlace going through, hopefully there is some synergy that will move Capitol Club along. I also am holding out hope that with …

Does anyone know that in the areas around the CSO construction like around Michigan Ave. and Grand Ave. (such as seen in some of these pictures) if the black asphalt put in between the streets and the sidewalk is temporary or permanent? Are they pla…

Wow, that sounds pretty cool...I hadn't heard any rumors or talk about this before. Anyone know what the plans are for the gas station on Larch next to the Stadium District? The store portion is completely gutted and the exterior is down to plywoo…

http://www.lansingstatejournal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080919/NEWS01/809190356&referrer=FRONTPAGECAROUSEL LSJ article states this project is ahead of schedule...they hope to have the exterior done by winter and then start on interior…

It's not quibbling, your point is a good one and I agree with the principle. I think you could raise fares a fair amount before you would actually start deterring people, but you are going to eventually start pricing people out which will then mean …

$2 was just a totally random number I through out, not based on anything so even that might not prevent cuts. I suggested a fare increase ONLY as an option if the the two choices were that or the drastic cuts. Although it would hurt the lower income…

I agree hood. I think that if it really comes down to the millage failing, and without it they truly cannot afford not to make that deep of cuts, then they might as well raise fares to $2 or something. I think a significant fare increase would be le…

Menna's joint on 200 block of Washington Sq. next to Brannigan Brother's seems to have had a bit of interior work done. There were people in there today and lights on tonight when I came home. They were supposed to have opened by mid-July and I have…

The pamphlet that is distributed on CATA buses states the state has cut funding from 50% to 30%. That obviously doesn't help things...the bus driver tonight said that some routes will be cut/decreased frequency, all routes will be cut after 6pm and …

Yeah, I would be opposed to fare increases unless absolutely necessary. Mass transit systems to my knowledge RARELY cover expenses with fare. Plus, as I already noted in my previous post, although people like myself could easily afford a $1/ride hik…

I hope so LMich...for Lansing's interest as well as my own selfish interests. For me, I ride the 14 to work everyday; and for Lansing, I think to have a thriving urban city with a diverse/international population which adds to the flavor of a city y…
