Thanks for the link to the EL pic Mich. Based on the cars, I'd guess that was taken in the early 50s... just look at those beautiful tall trees down the median!!!

Wow, i see I missed some great ideas over the past few weeks! My vote is for Clara's; hood makes some good arguments for a different spot, but its hard to beat the feel of the old train station... which would be perfect for a farm-to-table restaur…

Well that's a pretty good way to waste taxpayers time and money... generate a huge, complicated plan and don't bother to change the zoning code to enforce it!!! I think this says a lot about the competence, vs. ideology, of East Lansing's city leade…

Thanks for clearing up the confusion Mich - I've been trying to keep an eye on what the city plans to do with those properties, as I believe they're a part of the financial mess that the city is in... as I recall, they were part of a large, overpric…

Jared - I envisioned the funds for moving city hall would come from the sale of the more desirable downtown parcel, but I really have no idea whether this would work. I agree it is best to keep as many city hall associated folks downtown as possibl…

Thats odd... I thought that the City of EL owned those rental properties. I seem to recall that they were considering knocking them down to put in a temporary surface lot while parking ramp under City Center was going to be built.

... and finally, that the unremarkable city hall building complex is squatting on a lot of wasted space in the downtown area... it would be great if they moved up abbot and built a more space efficient building across from Hannah on all of that was…

And that the city still has way too much surface lot parking in that area of downtown...

Looking at this rendering, it becomes painfully obvious that those properties on the opposite sides of evergreen and albert ave need a serious upsizing!!!

Here's the East Lansing historical districts map: https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/DocumentCenter/View/1100/Historic-District-PDF?bidId= as you can see, almost the entire downtown area is penned in by historical districts

Given Hagan's comments from the Eli article, it's pretty clear that they only care about their convenience and how much money they can squeeze from their desirable property near campus: "At the meeting, Brian Hagan pushed back, noting the project…

Mich - I'd like to see the city restrict development in that area to a higher minimum height, consistent with the future use plan for most of the downtown area (https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/DocumentCenter/View/7258/Master-Plan-Draft-May-4-2018-…

I was surprised to see that both Elderly and Marshall had music stores in downtown EL!

That's the one I was thinking about hood, thanks for the info. Jared- ELi has an update on the Albert townhomes/Hagan development. Apparently the proposal through ELCC: https://eastlansinginfo.org/content/downtown-albert-avenue-project-comes-…

Small aside... every time I see a bird's eye rendering of the Abbot/GR intersection, I think about how nice it would be to see a large, edgy, ultramodern glass-and-steel high rise built behind the original façade of the curved building on the east s…

Yeah, they do look a little boring. But that's not such a bad thing as long as they use decent materials. And the other renderings the make the buildings look a bit more dolled up at street level.

Whatever happened to that proposed development next to the B&B on Albert, near 525 and 533? I haven't heard anything about that for a while...

What the heck is an "Institute for Oddfellows?" An actual educational building or a just meeting place? I am a little familiar with the IOOF, but I thought they were more of a lodge-oriented civic organization like the Elks or Moose. Are their m…

Mich - Right on. Just imagine how different it will look if/when the "Park district" project is completed, and their is more density built up back from Albert towards the North, as per EL's long term plan!
