I found a good link for historical and aerial pics of that site: http://www.waterwinterwonderland.com/driveintheaters.aspx?id=61&Type=1 One more from the journal on local drive-ins https://www.lansingstatejournal.com/story/life/2015/10/…

Hey Mich - a minor point about your Aug 23rd post that I forgot to follow up on... That property (329 M.A.C), and the one next to it are owned by Mark Terry, who is a local landlord, and long-time resident of EL. He tried to get those properties …

Well, I'd love to see this project moving forward again. Here's hoping for spring of 2019!
-
Ah, thanks for the correction!
-
Jared and Mich - Not sure... this is the most recent update I've come across: https://eastlansinginfo.org/content/details-revealed-proposed-redevelopment-deal However, I predict that any remaining issues will get fast-tracked towards a solutio…

That kid should have been more careful steering that horse to the well... it looks like they almost wrecked! I don't think they started installing antilock brakes on horses until well into the 1920s...

Also... Saginaw Street in East Lansing is nearly finished!

I always wished they'd throw a free train trolly on the tracks that from old town to downtown... even if its mostly just a tourist attraction. Rive ferry service in the summer would be pretty sweet too!!!

A couple of other notes: I think the developer is springing this now is for maximum leverage, because the city is desperate to get those evergreen properties off of the books before the balloon payment comes due in the near future. Otherwise, I …

Well, I'm going to raise a stink if the city is willing to knock down the old PO. Otherwise, I like the size, scale, and location of this project... and I've wanted a walkable movie theater in downtown EL since moving to the area!

Awesome. While I agree that the old KFC building leaves much to be desired, I'm glad to see one of the fancier area restaurants moving closer in. The original article mentioned that the owner has historic ties to the Allen Neighborhood Center, so …

Well, I almost got it right... I drove by the Kzoo/Harrison intersection, and while they are putting up new lights, they are not cantilevered. However, they are in black casings, and are wired across each street. So they do look much better than t…

Jared - Thanks, I didn't know that. Still, since there is a big push to integrate research and active learning into STEM curriculums, I would have thought "they" would've wanted to be closer to the research buildings as well. mindbender - it is …

Why not get the best of both worlds? If they knocked down everything but the first 30 feet or so of the domed part of the building, they could use it as the entrance for for the new building.
-
I'm glad to say it looks like they are putting up cantilevered traffic lights at Kzoo and Harrison! Not a big deal, but I think it will make that intersection look as good as the new developments around it.
-
The STEM building looks great, but I can't understand why they chose that site... virtually all of the science, technology, and engineering buildings are well to the East of there...
-
Whoo-hoo!
-
Thanks for the link to the EL pic Mich. Based on the cars, I'd guess that was taken in the early 50s... just look at those beautiful tall trees down the median!!!
-
Wow, i see I missed some great ideas over the past few weeks! My vote is for Clara's; hood makes some good arguments for a different spot, but its hard to beat the feel of the old train station... which would be perfect for a farm-to-table restaur…

Well that's a pretty good way to waste taxpayers time and money... generate a huge, complicated plan and don't bother to change the zoning code to enforce it!!! I think this says a lot about the competence, vs. ideology, of East Lansing's city leade…
