  • Looking like a lot of loose end approvals getting tied up on the 16th at city council concerning the ADU ordinance and the amendments to the zoning code. I think New Vision Lansing's stuff, too? We'll finally have all of that out the way.
  • Looks like the public hearing for this is next Monday. I think there is one more council meeting left on the 16th, which I think means everything should be approved by then to end the year.

  • Don't see any demolition permits filed, yet. But, yeah, it doesn't sound like they've at all been receptive to anything the advocates for the old school building have had to say, so I wouldn't be surprised if they are prepping for demolition. I s…
  • While driving around I noticed crews cutting down all the trees on the SW corner of Oakland and Cedar, is this area part of the housing going up near Motor Wheel Lofts? No. As far as I can tell, this was just clean-up of part of the site afte…
  • Looks like Windsor Township approved the final site plan for Consumers Energy's new service center at Billwood and Canal. It will be nearly 94,000 sq ft, about 22,000 sq ft of which will intitially be unbuilt but added as needed. The facility on Wil…
  • I didn't read any hints in that story, and nothing we haven't talked about here or in the media (i.e. the city hall proposal). If something was planned, the city wouldn't be tearing down the building for them; they'd be doing it themselves. As I rea…
  • Was looking through property records, and it looks like the Baryames sold their commercial property at the southeast corner of Grand and Kalamazoo to the housing commission, so that gives the entire block over to them for Riverview 220. This gives t…
  • Parks millage - like a lot of city millages - isn't really for capital projects, but rather to help with maintenance. It was put in place after the Great Recession when a lot of revenue sharing to the municipalities was cut.
  • Nothing much in next week's council agenda. It looks like all of the New Vision Lansing's approvals for their brownfield plan should be completed by early-to-mid December. In other news, our 5-year city parks millage is back up next year, so they ha…
  • Local media is reporting that the Lansing Brownfield Redevelopment Authority approved the plans for New Vision Lansing, and that they will now go to council for a final vote on December 2nd.
  • Looks like Gary went to both. Family must have moved his senior year or something. I've known members of the family as acquaintences, at least.
  • Honestly, I'm not sure how the demolition process works. I can't really find anything clearly showing the process, though reading the resolution, this appears as if it's near the end of the process. The demolition board recently made a change to its…
  • Missed this at last night's city council meeting. The council had up a resolution to start the process of bringing down the old Walter Neller Building (built 1938) at the northwest corner of Grand and Allegan. Here's a picture I took of it years ago…
  • Oh, the brownfield plan has information on everyone involved. Yes. Hobbs + Black designed this one, and the firm isn't that small. It has multiple locations; it's one of the more professional and capable firms we have in town. I've been checking the…
  • BTW, if anyone can find out the height of Tower on Grand (to its highest point. i.e. elevation overrun, parapet, etc.), let us know. I've not seen a number given anywhere.
  • Reading more of the brownfield plan, it seems the pedestrian bridge, while it'll add more connectivity to the east bank, is really just a front to allow utilities to cross the river to serve the property. lol Which, I'm totally all right with, becau…
  • Hood was just talking about this in the New Vision thread, but I'm glad that they are looking to revamp the west riverfront area of downtown. Years ago, I took this picture of the boardwalk on this side. I was so sad to see them take this all out (a…
  • Office space really makes sense that close to the capitol. They are going to get a lot of interest in it, I'm sure, for associations and such. I was a bit sad to see them chop a floor off of it, but they made it up with the additions to the project.…
  • Big update. The Lansing Brownfield Redevelopment Authority has had plans submitted to it with some changes. The project will now include the renovation of the Ingham Building on Ottawa just east of the State House Office Building, and a 7-story buil…
