I still can't understand for the life of me why the people in that neighborhood would prefer a factory to condos and new houses. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
-
Tearing down that building would be a good start at getting that area nicer, but it will need a lot more improvements to come in order to make it even presentable.
-
That is disappointing. LCC would have rehabbed the ramp making it much nicer, and this may doom the possibility of a joint LCC/City Performing arts center, at least at the University Center location.

The Boji's are idiots. They gave proven that in multiple ways. My dad said their property maintenance in the state offices is horrible. And for another example look at their much-hyped rehab of the Hollister building, it's a joke, they didn't even …

I wouldn't say One Michigan Ave is horrible. It's nothing great, but at least there is a little flare to it's design. It's just a plain mediocre office building.
-
Wow, pretty neat looking, although it looks out of place. Thanks a lot for the post.

Yeah I try to email the guy at studio intrigue again. Last time he didn't have much to say though.

It''s a pretty bland design, but never the less it will help to add some good density to that area. I'm sure the finished product will look good, although I don't expect anything spectacular.

Sounds like great project. So what I'm understanding is a 2 floor addition on the side of One Michigan, with a possible rooftop patio? I wonder if he plans on redoing the facade also.
-
I know, theres no mention of it on Clark's site, Granger Group's site, MSP's site or anywhere else. It's stupid.

Sounds good. But I hope they do something interesting to the exterior, adding some windows would be nice. Also I don't know if it's been posted here, but the Famous Taco on Allegan is being turned into a bar/grill.

If thats really their plans they may as well just scrap the whole system, cuts that deep would make CATA virtually worthless. And I fully expect that this millage will fail, people are not interested in paying more taxes at this point.
-
I'd like to see a breakdown of where most of their funding comes from. If the majority isn't coming from fares, fares need to be raised anyways. CATA Fares are reasonable compared to many other bus systems, they are often cheaper.
-
Millages haven't done well lately. And with this millage, as I understand it, there will be no real improvements, it's simply an operating millage. That really doesn't help it's cause much. I'd say the chances of this passing are up in the air, but …

I was just thinking the other day how neat it would be for a mid to high-rise "V" shaped building to go where the old 7 eleven is. I think a project on that property is inevitable, and may not be too far off the way things are going.

I don't know what EL's zoning codes mean, but zoning codes in general can be named virtually anything for any reason, and they can mean anything the municipality wants. Thats why they become very confusing if you have to deal with different cities, …

Just FYI, I was by the building yesterday and they had just started to put up a little brick on the Kalamazoo St side.
-
So do they plan on demolishing it? That would suck, it looks like it would be a nice old building with some work.
-
I'm interested to see how the mixed us building will look, by the description it won't be much smaller than Kalamazoo Gateway.

I don't expect the Frandor area to change much until Frandor itself leads the change, by switching to more of a lifestyle center format. I do see a decent possiblity of mixed use developments going in along Michigan though, and possibly even between…
