The only projects that seem to move quickly from the planning phase around here seem to be the ones that involve little or no municipal infrastructure work...

Now that the 10ish story buildings are up downtown, I think it is becoming obvious that they are not the overpowering monoliths that the EL NIMBY's feared. So why not go higher!
-
Well its official, shovels are in the ground they are moving dirt as of yesterday!

Looks like the funding was approved yesterday by Snyder, although the project planners are getting less than they want: https://www.lansingstatejournal.com/story/news/local/2018/12/28/heritage-hall-funding-may-approved-michigan-capitol-lansing/23…

So I drove by the site yesterday, and there are some small signs of progress - construction machines are on site and the temporary fencing is getting shuffled around!

I just saw this in the state journal. Great news!!!

My bad... I did mean to the west! Very good points about the narrowness of this plot in regards to drive-throughs. I still think a high rise with well thought out first floor drive-throughs could work. I'm pretty sure I've seen considerably worse …

Thanks for the info Mich - its not my neighborhood, but I agree with gbd that that kind of heavy construction business is out of place in that part of town. Hopefully this gets nipped in the bud.

Tearing down all the blight and the massively underutilized, huge parking lots to the east, then getting a variance to build something tall, useful, and perfect for the site??? I say yes to that!!! But seriously, you're probably right about the r…

Well if it is truly a zoning violation, where could you register a complaint?

Hard to believe it, but there it is... Eli projects a start date in December, with foundation pouring to begin in January! https://eastlansinginfo.org/content/wait-over-construction-will-start-vacant-corner

Hey all, Does anyone know what is going on at the corner of Trowbridge and Harrison, next to the tracks? There is a old building there with a construction fence and dumpster set up. I've always thought that site, along with the adjacent abandon…

Thanks for the info and corrections folks! Just a couple of updates to add... The building at 6100 W Saginaw looks to be under renovation, rather than being torn down completely. Still no indication of what is going in there... There is some…

A few recent observations and updates while driving on West Saginaw this summer/fall (moving from east to west)... * The former thrift store next to LLB Asian Foods hasn't had a for-sale sign up in a while. Does anyone know what's going on the…

So... how is the City's new water runoff management plan likely to affect this development then?
-
Yep MIch, that's the one. I'd love to see the old building underneath the "Sith makeover" they did on the facade in the 1970s or 1980s. It would be nice to see the South Grand Ramp go, and have a park put in. I always think that ramp is such an…

Yep, looks like a step in the right direction... except for the surface lot. I really wish the state or city would require a riparian buffer to help minimize runoff pollution into urban waterways...

Yes, the EL CC/admin is really gotten out of hand. Not only have they been bungling development for decades, and wasting tons of money in the process, they've also more recently been getting more publicly in trouble for mismanagement of city/federa…

gbd - Great idea! hood - Yes; SW Grand & Michigan would be perfect. I'd love to see this coupled to a book-ended development at Kzoo and Grand to help spur infill along the bleak parking lot crater between the two (along the north side of Gra…

Also, I must admit that I'm not a fan of the development of that area, especially in the wetlands. There really is no reason to build that area out, except for developers and Meridian township to cash in on high-end sprawl...
