  • I am still amazed that E Michigan in front of Frandor has not be repaved, does anyone know why it has been delayed for so long or when we could look forward to the end of the moon scaped pavement. I know I should call and find out but maybe someone here knows.

The city's Public Service Department construction map simply says "Planned for 2025" "Not Started." I do recall this was supposed to have happened months ago, so I have no idea what happened. They give the contact for this particular project as being (517) 483-4254.

Speaking of roads, the two middle lanes of East Saginaw are a mess through its entire length of the city and the closer you get to Frandor the worse it gets. A disgrace. Someone's going to damage their car and it's going to cause accidents; I hope someone doesn't get hurt. MDOT needs to get on this. The Cedar-Larch bridge/viaduct in north Lansing was also like this, with potholes at the parts where the approches meet the bridge so deep, I almost ruined my car. They appear to have filled some of these in and sanded down the edges and such. This has really gotten ridiculous.
  • Saginaw is such a mess over there. I'm still not a fan of a 7 or 8 lane road but the J-turn option with medians seems like a nice enough idea.

Was looking through the adopted budget, and something that caught my eye is that a major transfer was made from our "major streets fund" to our "local streets fund" so that we go from spending $4.48 million for local streets this fiscal year to $13.94 million in the coming fiscal year. The budget says that the "major streets fund" may be replenished in the coming fiscal year if the legislature is able to agree on some kind of dedicated funding source for local street maintenance, which they are currently negotiating, I think.

I'm quite curious to see where this is all going, and will keep an eye on the city construction map. This is slightly over 3x what we're spending in the current fiscal year, so you're going to see a lot of local road projects. I'm still unclear, though, what constitutes a "major" street and a "local" street. I know that "major" streets definitely include the state roads/trunklines, but which others are included I don't know.
  • That sounds great on the surface, count me as also very interested in where this money goes. I'd generally assume major and minor arterials are "major streets" (Cedar/MLK/Waverly/Jolly/Saginaw being major arterials and Miller/Holmes/Washington being minor arterials). Obviously neighborhood side streets are "local", but there's another category that I forget the name of, "neighborhood feeder" or something like that, that includes streets like Baker and Northrup; I don't know what category those would go into.
  • Here is my list of some local streets to repave, Baker Street, Moorse River Drive, High Street, Cesar Chavez, Hosmer Street, Hazel Street, Malcom X, West Kalamazoo, West Michigan, West Barnes Avenue, Olds Avenue, McPherson Avenue, Boston Blvd. and I'm sure you folks could add more than a few more streets to this list. Is 2025 the year when it all could happen?
