I don't know but that's a great idea
-
That's great to hear. Large projects like this don't happen over night.
-
I agree.

PublicResponse has existed since 1998 in East Lansing. I randomly visit it and read the emails, it's more of an email list with hosted archives. Elliot was and still is a big fighter in East Lansing against City Center 2 and the bad financial deals …
-
Hmmm... reading more about it, the development at Bogue and Grand River by Core Campus (Core Spaces) is actually the same developers as Center City: http://publicresponse.com/?page=article&cid=896&aid=1690
-
Yeah I agree. I'm still crossing my fingers for the development at Bogue and Grand River, though I haven't heard anything about it for a while now. That development is lead by a company from Chicago.
-
I hope they don't bill the driver for the damage to the building On a more serious note, both of these incidents are a further reminder of how dangerous automobiles are. Along with widening sidewalks, we should install bollards at intersections …

The Balleins are very local. They own much of Grand River in East Lansing, their connection to city government may actually be the reason their project is moving so fast while the other ("competing") project has hit a few speed bumps.
-
Yeah, I agree with your whole comment. The speed limit needs to be lowered and we were very lucky there were no casualties. Changing Cedar and Larch to two-way would help in lowering the speed limit, and adding in protected bike lanes along Michi…

That's great to hear that it's moving forward! Two years since the last update on the project and the costs have raised 150%. This will be very good quality residential in-fill.
-
This happened a few days ago but wasn't posted here yet. A school bus (with no children on board) crashed in to the side of the Stadium District where the Beer Grotto was (they closed about 6 months ago I believe). The building suffered major struct…

Any idea why the northern one was called Lower Town and the southern Upper Town? Old Town isn't necessarily lower in elevation (at least today).
-
Yeah that's sad. That development would have been really nice infill. The city's debt and mismanagement of City Center 2 is having real consequences
-
Thanks I had been reluctant to start another thread until the project looked like it was solidly going to move forward. It now does
-
Thanks for finding this. Wow it's actually more tied up than I thought. Even though that previous article says demolition is still on track and something will get built, I can still see the current developers announcing that they're selling the prop…
-
I'm a bit confused by the orientation of the rendering. As far as I can tell, that rendering has nothing to do with the actual streets/layout of the development.
-
It seems that DRW/Convexity thought they would just inherit the tax credit for free, but that tax credit was awarded to Chapelle and his proposal. If DRW/Convexity had worked with the MEDC when they acquired the properties to create their own propos…

This project is now officially dead again, http://eastlansinginfo.org/content/chappelle-effectively-kills-park-district-plans
-
What concerns me most about this isn't the architecture, it's that there is no plan presented for where City Hall will move to or how it will be funded. For all we know, City Hall will end up operating out of trailers.

Any other place I would like it, but I don't like the idea of a new building sitting in the courtyard of an older building.
