Disappointed to see a population decrease within the city limits in the last census. Breakdown by community via Bridge Michigan * Lansing 112,644 (-1,653) -1.4% * Lansing Township 8,143 (17) 0.2% * Dewitt 4,776 (269) 6% * Dewitt Township 4,776…

Great article today in the LSJ for subscribers only discussing the possibilities and options for downtown in light that many State of Michigan employees will remain remote workers. Ideas included redeveloping vacant office buildings into condos and …

Lansing and LSD were in expansion mode during that time. Fine Park is probably named for the developer Francis Fine, who developed Churchill Downs (across Waverly) the decade prior. He may have developed this neighborhood as well, assuming this beca…

> State workers will be coming back downtown (and to wherever else they work in-office) on July 12. I know the commercial businesses downtown will be happy. Some are coming back, not all of them. Many that do come back will be splitting re…

@gbdinlansing The terrain at Northrup is rolling, so not as prominent as Mt Hope. I bike that stretch of the trail quite a bit. Here's the topos for both Mt Hope and Northrup. The closer that lines are together, the steeper the terrain.

This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I'd rather the greenspace remain than see the planned development happen. It's so uninspiring.

That would have been an abomination. The image is "scheme C" or "scheme D" (it's hard to tell) and there's more pics of that and other proposed designs here; https://photos.metrotimes.com/michigan-state-capitol-redesign-never/?slide=8&scheme-c-e…

I absolutely love this, not only for COVID but in general. I specifically choose places with outdoor seating from spring-fall, which means I have a short rotation list of places.

The hope is probably to draw in the new residents to push out the vagrants.

...why would you be opposed to more residential...in an area you're trying to revitalize with more foot traffic. I like her son, I'm in his ward, but I'm glad she's gone.

It's weird, because this block would be the one block where a full sidewalk would make much sense, but the full sidewalks don't start until a block west and a block east where they are less needed. lol Just Lansing Township things.

I agree, it's pretty striking in this area.

Elevator towers going in.

Unreal. East Lansing is looking like Sim City when I start high speed mode.

Parts of Ward 3 are an example of Lansing using LSD as the hook. In particular the Pleasant Grove School District (Holmes/Pleasant Grove). They had an elementary school but relied on Lansing for high school education. Lansing threatened to cut that …

Yep, townships were surveyed well before Lansing existed. The early history of the region is an interesting read. Surveyors hacked their way through the area measuring 6x6 miles of wilderness. Lansing had a lot of success with annexation throug…

Lansing Township's existence is bad for the region, whether due to mismanagement, neglect, or duplication of services/competing interests. There's no vision, no leadership, no cohesive community. It's just a patchwork of tax dodgers. Obviously in…

That's suuuuuper interesting. Time to call my council member.

Still waiting for a kick ass urban condo development in Old Town or another walkable neighborhood for people that want something higher end but also want to live smack dab in a cool neighborhood.
