  • It was briefly discussed above by me and @MichMatters on June 6th. Gillespie Group is redeveloping the buildings, along with the two storefronts to the west, into retail and 15 apartments.
  • Hood, you mentioned it first a few hours before me. :) I'd missed your edit. lol

I had to look up what this was, but in the last month or so, a construction company on E Cesar Chavez just west of Larch improved an old dirt driveway onto Larch from their property. I grew up in this area, and up until very recently, it was an old chain-linked fence entrance that was rarely used. Anyway, they came in an excavated it and graveled it (such a weird thing to see in an urban neighborhood)...but the problem is that now between the driveway and Cesar Chavez is nothing but a trail of dust that gets kicked up since much of the construction company property is dirt. You've got to roll up your windows every time you go through. I know the neighbors can't like this.

I love seeing a local business apparently doing well, but this is precisely the kind of stuff that nuisance abatement is for. I still can't quite believe they haven't made them clean up this operation on a fast, urban street like Larch. /rant

I've been wondering if all of the new traffic from this site is the result of BWL building its solar field up on Lake Lansing Road? I've seen a lot of the solar company contractors trucks around, lately.
  • I know this has been brought up before, not sure if anyone has been by recently but looks like they have tenants. More liquor stores and chicken. Corner of Kzoo and Penn...

I can't say I'm surprised. I'd been betting with people that it's going to be a liquor/lotto place. Seems like we just can't have anything nice. Not to mention, there's already a liquor store a few blocks away...

I could have sworn last time I saw this that there was more stone. lol As for the tenants, well, liquor licenses get passed around as they are very valuable things. I also would never expect anything high-end for that corner; just happy to see it cleaned up and reused.
  • Yeah, I wouldn't expect anything more for that corner but I'm always a little hopeful for something more. Not even high end, just something new. I guess I'm amazed it's even profitable to have so many liquor/lotto places so close to one another. Is there that much demand in the area lol? I like my wine, but I've never found myself at the corner stores.

I drive by it pretty regularly, I don't think the stone quantity has changed. I'll give it credit for being an improvement over what was there. Low bar though lol.
  • Yea! more chicken, better be good, I live in the Caines neighborhood, that place packs them in every day. it is quite a tourist attraction; there are always groups visiting EL and MSU lining up to get in there. Why? don't ask me! I it is so average! good luck to the new chicken!
  • The EL Caines, unfortunately, isn't that great, from my couple of visits. I often go when I'm visiting family in Ohio. Those locations, the chicken is so fresh, juicy and hot...and the sauce is amazing. They're the typical fast food venue though with a drive through so it's much easier to get an order.
