Though I will say it remains unclear to me how it is that, when the buses go all the way up the airport entrance anyway, a walkway to Grand River Avenue will help people arriving by public transportation.
I wonder how many people will use the sidewalk in one year? It would be a better idea to improve the passenger terminal. I have never thought "gee I wish I could walk to the airport".
I doubt the sidewalk will get a ton of use but it never the less should be there. Not having sidewalks on city streets, particularly streets without a shoulder, is practically a sin.
Your right of course, I actually do think the sidewalk is a good idea. The sidewalk now ends at the airport road on Grand River. Is that the city limit?
I think the Airport property is technically within city limits. If you ever want to actually see the city limits just go to Google Maps and search "Lansing, MI" or whatever municipality you want and you'll see the boundaries in a red/white dashed line.
I saw an advertisement for the Grand Rapids Ford Airport on the back page of the City Pulse talking about all the new improvements to their airport. Again, I have project envy! Of course, I know that GR has a larger customer base and more non-stops because of its location, but I think Lansing could be doing a little better if we had such a nice modern facility.
Agreed. You reminded me to check the airport's master plan page and... still nothing. Maybe they'll surprise us with a new terminal plan that actually has teeth, or more realistically, an actually decent plan to overhaul the existing terminal into something better than just 'not embarrassing', maybe add a parking ramp.
Per some recent conversation, I will say the present airport terminal can be quite nice, although I do think some of that niceness is just the result of "not that many people around".
I had that in extreme this morning because I was just dropping our daughter off so she could fly away to her cousins. Delta requires you to wait until the plane is in the air to leave when dropping off a minor, so for a little bit I may have literally been the only human on the secure side of the terminal.
I am wondering if when this stupid war has ended that airlines will begin adding some flights and destinations for Lansing. I think the new American Airlines flights coming in October will add a lot of people using the airport. I have found booking a trip to and from Lansing is usually nearly the same as landing in Detroit, but without the one-hundred-mile road trip each way by the bus or car, which
is expensive and takes quite a while. People these days have been picking Detroit for so long I would bet many don't even think of Lansing as an option. Back in the day Lansing had at least a dozen flights to Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, Minneapolis and one stop flights to DC, Boston, and New York. Of course, airlines run by a different route system via their hubs, and I would say that it was nice to just sit on the same plane for a stop rather than getting off and heading into that airport for another flight.
