I like the design of the buildings but I wish there would be some green space inside of the development. Converting one of those surface lots to a grassy field would be an improvement.

Yeah, not a destination hotel or even something to compete with the Marriott in East Lansing or Radisson downtown. At least a hotel with a rooftop bar or fancy restaurant included would be a compromise.
-
The hotel locating here may also have to do with the borders of downtown and the chokehold that the Radisson has on it. $4m actually sounds pretty cheap though for 4 stories. I don't expect any ground floor retail will be included unless the city re…

Meridian Township is looking at a plan to build a river trail from Hagadorn Rd to Park Lake Rd, along the northern edge of the Red Cedar River. Eventually the trail would connect all the way to Lake Lansing Park. http://www.lansingstatejournal.co…

Really, the GM site is the perfect location for it. But there is also the land on the other side of Washington where the Deluxe Inn stood. It wouldn't have to stop any other development from coming in and using whatever is left of the site.

This brownstone in Brooklyn is actually a facade and is a subway ventilation building. They did a pretty nice job of not making it look ugly in the middle of the neighborhood. I'd also add that I think MSU did a pretty good job of making their pa…

So many bad decisions back then. Makes me wonder what types of bad decisions we're making now, in terms of Lansing and also in terms of the current best-practices of urban planning nationwide. Nationwide I think some big mistakes are giving unlim…

@hood I think your gut instinct is right. We shouldn't be putting electrical sub stations on main corners in a central city. They should be tucked away and out of sight, as they have no pedestrian use or foot traffic, are often loud and potentially …

The article said the retail will be for scraps and industrial parts which makes more sense for the location.

The Potter Mill site by Potter Park Zoo on the south side of the river between Pennsylvania and Cedar St is getting reused. It will include 14,500sq ft of retail on the first floor and 23,000sq ft of commercial space on the second floor. http://w…

MSU Federal Credit Union is going to spend $500k to open an intern center on Grand River, between Curious Book Store and the Tin Can Bar (previously Stateside Deli). The location will house about 20 interns. http://www.lansingstatejournal.com/sto…

It became controversial because it is used by people who have controversial beliefs. History has shown once a statement/logo/flag becomes associated with a controversial group it becomes stuck to that group, and most likely isn't worth trying to giv…

Yeah, much of the mindshare back in the day was that "wider streets = bigger city", which is part of the reason why Washington Sq is so wide. Washington Sq could actually fit 6 lanes of traffic if the perpendicular parking was converted to lanes. Th…

MichMatters, I'm talking about the building next door with the barbershop and Stober's.

He said that they are replacing the liquor store with something that serves the neighborhood better. I wonder what the status is of the places above the building just east of this one?

Some pictures from the development at Beech and Gunson St, https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B-YE9jRAIUTQTHhiQTAzWFAxaEE&usp=sharing This used to be a small development with tiny "monopoly" style houses (Google Maps satellite view of th…

Looking at the banner on your second picture, I like how the Frandor sign at the entrance appears so dwarfed next to the building.

The owner/developers of land sometimes announce projects with prospective designs to gather interest from potential investors or future lease-holders. Many will wait until the tenants have signed on before starting construction, which helps with loa…

At the end of the sheriff's sale, the previous holder of the property has a 6-month redemption period where they can match the final bid and retain control of the property. This redemption period was supposed to end February 6th. It appears that the…

I like the incorporation of the facades, something I wish would be done for the development on East Michigan Ave. I think the building is a perfect size for the surrounding area. I wouldn't want to hold out for a high-rise proposal, as that could be…
