  • From the upcoming Council meeting packet (4/13/15):

The Ottawa Block rezoning is up for approval.

Troppo is proposing to add a 550 sq ft addition to their first floor dining room on the Michigan ave side.

There's a liquor license being transferred to the "Potent Potables Project" at 502 E Grand River (the old Temple Club)
  • I'd agree that one of the GM site would be ideal for a new power plant, but I can't imagine any reason why it has to be near downtown since the REO Town Plant is providing steam now. No doubt this will be large and important project, as will the redevelopment of the Eckert site.
  • Seeing that field at Ferris Park put to any productive use will be nice, I really wish they'd rebuild that block of Chestnut Street though.

It's also good to see the Capitol being maintained. I'm still anxious to see what happens with the welcome center project though.
  • LSJ is a little late, WILX had this back in January: Sparrow unveils plans for new cafeteria. The LSJ story does have more info though, like the square footage and a completion date.

I'd be surprised if they kept the basement cafeteria around after this new one opens, I can't imagine a good reason to keep it.

My first guess would also be a fast food place, but I don't know what else we could expect to go on Cedar St. Maybe another place from down the street getting a new building or one of the new-to-town chains setting up on the southside. I'm really glad to see the Cedar St corridor continue to improve.

It's certainly looks like it could be an airport there, I'd assume if it were, it was probably just a simple grassy landing strip. Thanks for that map also.
  • I'm anxious to hear what this is. They're making it sound as if it's something quite a bit bigger than any of the recent announcements. Bernero's quoted as sayings GM's "doubling down" on Lansing. It almost lends hope to another plant altogether out at Delta Township, it has been hinted at in the past.
  • Meh is exactly my thought.

$520 million on equipment is all well and good, but I doubt it really means much for the area other than that GM probably isn't leaving in the near future.
  • I agree, a somewhat underwhelming announcement. I wasn't sure that a separate facility would be built, but perhaps an addition to the existing factory to build additional models. But since no new jobs are announced (retain 1,900 jobs), sounds like the new equipment will support the next generation of Acadias, Traverses, and Enclaves. But a half-billion dollar investment is good news, nonetheless.

In other development news: Costco in talks about store in Greater Lansing
Nothing definite here, the company is in discussions with Delta Township for a site likely on Saginaw Highway west of I-96.
Fletcher confirmed Thursday that township officials have had several discussions with Costco and are under the impression the company will eventually make a move... Delta Township has available land on Saginaw Highway — just north of Walmart, Lowe's and other retailers in The Marketplace at Delta Township development — that it's trying to pitch for a mixed-used project.

I'm assuming a Costco would be part of the mixed use development. There is mention of a possible IKEA too. I think a Costco is much more likely in the near future.

Costco has been rumored for a while, and I noticed this site recently indicated that a Costco was planned for Lansing (probably not an entirely reliable source, but interesting anyway). Traverse City is also mentioned. Costco Locations
  • I was happy until I read Delta Township. If Lansing could pull them out of Delta Township and in to downtown Lansing, that would be huge for downtown as well as the neighborhoods surrounding it.
