  • First post here love the forum!

Not sure if this has been discussed before, but does anyone think the surface lots in downtown EL across the street from Harper's and right behind the Peanut Barrel will ever be torn down? The two locations are prime locations for major downtown developments. Obviously more parking would have to come from somewhere. Just a thought a buddy and myself were floating around a couple days ago.

Welcome to the forum! The city put out an RFP for that lot in 2007 to get a highrise built there with parking on the first floor. Here's a link to the comments on this site about it, http://develop.metrolansing.com/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=19&page=5#Item_3

    Here's a link to that RFP, https://msu.edu/~weinjare/urban/lot1_rfp.pdf

It's definitely a prime location, and is currently heavily underused.

Welcome, that lot is a great location and I hope that they make sure a quality development or developments go there. This made me think of conceptual rendering I found and saved awhile ago labeled "EL condos." When I saved it I was thinking that it may be a proposal for lot 1 but looking at it now I can't tell what it might be, maybe an early City Center 2 proposal?

  • Got a couple things for ya:

    1. The Pancheros in downtown EL has closed?! My life is over.

    2. It looks like the renovations at First National Bank of America on Saginaw might be more extensive that I thought. Took the below picture inside the bank today. I see what appears to be a restaurant called "The Ledge", whether it would just be for employees I don't know. And the bottom left picture, which you probably can't read, says "Red Door Apartments". So far as I know right now that building is just commercial.

  • On second thought that apartment company already exists, I think their offices are just in that building: https://www.aihitdata.com/company/017E3C1E/RED-DOOR-APARTMENTS/overview . Ah, that makes more sense.
  • OK there is already a second floor cafetaria: https://www.glassdoor.com/Photos/First-National-Bank-of-America-Office-Photos-IMG642767.htm . Place looks pretty cool inside actually, have never been but on the first floor.
  • I was at the Art Festival, which is great, lots to see, lots of very nice art work. What I noticed also is that East Lansing's streets are as bad as anywhere. The sidewalks and ally are so broken and dirty it's kind of gross and dangerous. The street is full of cracks and holes. The same goes for the lot they have the food court in. Just a bit of patchwork sweep up and wash down, maybe planting a few flowers, would have been nice. This festival brings thousands of people to E.L. Why not put the best face forward.

East Lansing is landing a Costco. Facebook chatter says that the company was eyeing the Flowerland location or the Waverly golf course location but were denied by the local townships. Sucks for those of us that frequent the west side more than BFE Lake Lansing.
  • Nice to hear but I wish that would have been closer to one of the urban cores. Getting CostCo near downtown Lansing could be huge, and there is definitely the space for it.
  • gbinlansing I've had exactly that thought - they have these booths in the street, and I've seen people stumble and fall because of uneven pavement and mini-potholes. It's embarrassing. And unkind.
