Something like in that picture wouldn't be bad for this area and I'm sure it would see plenty of use. I would not call it a performing arts center and it wouldn't serve the purpose of one. I could easily see the Lansing area supporting one of these flexible venues along with a 1000+ seat traditional auditorium to supplement Wharton.
It will be great to see that olf school finally get some love. With a little cleaning and the right windows it could be a really nice looking building. Looking at the gym I doubt it's original and I wouldn't be sad to see it go if they can't find a use for it.
Looks like the old food co-op in EL is reopening in the small slice of Lansing Township just east of the 127 overpass. I never set foot in the old location and am unsure if I will when it re-opens but I think it has potential being where it is. With the new development slated right next to it and the closeness to the East Side it could have a wider following then before.
I was glad to hear the city is going after the former owner for the money they stole while leaving this building to fall apart. Very bad Spartans! I hope they do not own that title anymore.
I also hope this a for real we are building not dreaming project for the Urban system guy.
Well, that's what I get for skimming the article lol. Yeah, it is costly, but maybe they are just doing the bare minimum legally to keep the case alive?
Even though wines with too much tannin can me chock:} I will look forward to trying the calamari, have not had any since I left Mass... You could catch them [squid] right off the town wharf so they were very fresh! but not fun to clean. Very inky!
I was there yesterday and I'm happy to report that business looks good for them. We made reservations, which looks important if you're looking for a seat there on Friday night, but they do have bar seating where walk-ins could get full service while watching the kitchen staff.
I plan to return. It was really neat looking out the window and seeing bustling Michigan Avenue, the new apartments across the street, etc. I saw a few references to 'East Town' along the strip, so I wonder if developers are in the early stages of trying to market the neighborhood like REO Town and Old Town.
I think East Town works maybe "Lansing East Town" would make a distinction between East Town and East Lansing, but I definitely think the area should be one of our Towns.
This looks great. As I was out of town for about 30 years I have been wondering about what happened to this structure. Why does it seem that the elevator structure is three stories taller than the building? It would great if they also renovated the pedestrian overpass, I really hate how it looks, very dated and not ever attractive.
